Working with Layers

When you create a new entity, it is always placed in the current working layer. When you start a new model, the default working layer is layer 1. You can change the working layer, from 1 to 255, using the Working Layer (\layer) command.

When you move or copy an entity, it remains in its original layer. However, you can change the layer of an entity or a group of entities, using the Change Entity Layer (\ulyr) command.

You can display all the layers together on the screen (default), or you can hide some of the layers and operate on only one or a few layers at a time. When you plot a model, you can likewise display or hide any layers that you wish.

You can perform operations on entities in all layers that are currently displayed on the screen. If you hide a layer, ARC+ commands will have no effect on entities in that layer (except for erasing the entire model).

To determine the layer of an existing entity, see the Query, Entity Attributes (\qent) command.
