Layers and Layer Groups

The Layer Manager shows all the layers created for the current model. If the file is new or contains no layer, a single layer, called Common Layer is displayed. The layers can be grouped. All the layers and layer groups generate a tree.

Organizing the List of Layers

You can organize the list of layers by adding or removing layers or layer groups:

image\ebx_-1866715137.gif Add group: Create a new layer group. The name of the group appears in the Name column.

image\ebx_635825121.gif Add layer: Create a new layer in the tree. First, select the group in which you want to create the layer. The layer name appears in the Name column.

You can organize layers in a tree composed of groups. Each group may independently contain one or more sub-groups or layers. This structure is saved in the ADB file attached to the model. It is loaded automatically as you open the model.

Renaming Layers or Layer Groups

By default, the new layers are named as New layer1, 2, 3... and the new groups are named as New group 1, 2, 3.... You can rename the layers or layer groups by a slow double-click on their name. No two layers in a group can have the same name.

Changing Layer Number

Each layer has a single number, which is displayed in the Number column. When you click on this number, a pull-down list appears. You can choose any other number from 1 to 255. If the chosen number has already been used, it will not appear in the list.
