Selecting/Deselecting

Selecting and deselecting entities are similar operations. Most selection commands allow you to select or deselect entities. Therefore when the title of a command shows selection or adding a selection group, it includes deselection or removing entities from a group as well.

To select—or deselect by holding the ALT key—an entity, the command prompts you to specify the desired entity or entities. Indicate the entity using the mouse or the keyboard. The selected entities are then displayed by red dotted lines. If the indicated entity is not the one you want to select, press undo or deselect by holding the ALT key.

Most of the selection commands are looped, so that you can continue selecting entities and adding them to the selection group. You can also use another selection command to add more entities to the selection group or to deselect specific entities in the group. The selection group remains selected while you perform various operations and is deselected when you specify.

When you indicate a simple solid with the mouse, be sure that the entire simple solid is selected. A simple solid is composed of two bases connected by edges. If you indicate one of the connecting edges, the entire solid is selected. However, if you indicate a point on either base of the solid, then only that base is selected.

Only one selection group can exist at a time. The selection group can contain any number of entities — up to and including the entire model.

If you select walls without their openings or vice versa or select only one of the base polygons of simple solids or 3D walls, the extract or copy operation will not be executed.
