Non-Geometric Attributes

About Non-geometric Attributes

The Attribute Manager treats the non-geometric attributes only. Non-geometric attributes are named values that can be attached to an entity or a group of entities. They consist of two parts:

Attribute name

Attribute value

The attribute string is written in the format:

 attribute name=value

The non-geometric attributes can be used for a variety of purposes. For example, you can use them to calculate quantities, classify entities or simply to attach a note to an entity to remind you of some special treatment at later stage.

Typical use of non-geometric attributes would be:

material=concrete
price=$126
finish=unpainted

About Attaching Attributes to an Entity

You can attach attributes to any entity and add further attributes to entities that you have already attached.

You can attach as many attributes as you wish to an entity, but you cannot give two or more different values to the same attribute name for one entity (i.e. color=red, color= blue for one entity). You must not use the equal sign (=) in the attribute name or the semi-colon (;) anywhere in the string.

About Adding Attributes to the List

You can add as many attributes to the list as required. Within the list, the same attribute may be shown more than once with different values, but each attribute may be attached only once to an entity.
