Proportional Spacing
You can select proportional or nonproportional spacing irrespective of the font being used.
In proportional spacing, thin characters such as i or l occupy less space than wide characters such as M or W. With nonproportional spacing, every character occupies the same space.
If you use proportional spacing, you can specify the distance between adjacent characters in units from 1 to 30. The units are fractions of the character width, i.e., 1/30 to 30/30 of the character width. To compress or stretch your text to fit a certain area of your drawing, you can adjust the distance, LIKE THIS or LIKE THIS.
Linear patterns are always displayed with nonproportional spacing, because the repeating unit is of constant width.
HINT Proportional spacing usually looks better than nonproportional spacing. Use nonproportional spacing in tables, etc., if you need to align characters vertically in different rows.
