Terrain Model
Topographic maps and models generated in ARC+ display terrain in 2D and 3D graphic forms. Use the maps and models to visualize a site before designing a building, to analyze the relationship between a structure and its terrain, to present a design with land contours or to check lines of site from a specific point in the landscape.
Maps and models are converted from geodetic data, which are usually supplied by surveyors, city planners, civil engineers or are extracted from maps. Several graphic representations may be generated, including 2D contour maps, 3D contour models, solid contour prisms and triangulated networks.
This chapter describes the procedure for generating topographic maps or models, including preparing source files and selecting a topographic map or model style. The various models are also described.
