Exploding a Placed Object to Its Component Entities

Convert a placed or parametric object to its component entities (lines, polygons, walls, etc.)

\explod

Use this command to break the link between a placed object and its source file. The entities in the placed object become ordinary entities in your model, and you can edit or modify them as you please. You can also recalculate dimensions of scaled placed objects that include dimension lines.

Specify a scaling factor while inserting an ARC+ file into another file as a placed object using the Place and Scale Object (\pl1p) command. If the object includes dimension lines, the dimension values are no longer correct.

You can update the dimensions by exploding the placed object and replying yes (Y) in the input line to the Recalculate dimension text option.

You may choose to explode:

The top level placed object only, i.e., only the object that was directly placed in your model

The top-level object plus all nested objects (objects that are placed within the top-level object source file)

Nested objects from the current folder only, or all nested objects from both the current folder and the library folder arcalib

You can choose the layer of ARC+ to insert the component entities (see Layers):

The layer of the placed object before it was exploded

The original layers of the component entities within the placed object source file

The current working layer

A new layer of your choosing

Operation

Indicate the placed object that you wish to explode.

Choose to explode:

The top level placed object only

The top-level object plus all nested objects

In the latter option, choose to explode:

Objects whose files are in the current directory only

Objects in both the current folder and in libraries

You may choose the layer of ARC+ (see Layers) in which the component entities are inserted:

The placing layer of the object within the model

The original layers of the component entities within the object source file

The current working layer

A new layer that you specify

The placed object is converted according to your specifications. A file called explode.rpt is created in your current directory, reporting any conversion problems such as a missing source file for a nested placed object.
