What you Need to Know about Solid Entity Types

In ARC+ there are two main types of solid entities:

Regular or Simple solids

Complex solids

REGULAR (SIMPLE) SOLIDS

Solids based on two joined polygon

bases. The surfaces between the polygon bases are not polygons.

COMPLEX SOLIDS

Solids whose surfaces consist entirely of polygons

Rendering is applied to these solid types in different ways. Wrapping a texture around a solid is possible only for simple solids.

When necessary you can check the type of solid by using the Querying the attributes of an entity (\qent) command.

Regular or simple solids can be converted into complex solids individually (see Polygons, Converting a simple solid to complex solid (\sol3to9) command), or globally (see Rendering, Converting simple to complex solids (\solconv) command), but complex solids cannot be reverted into simple ones. 3D walls are regarded as simple solids unless they have been sectioned or Boolean operations have been carried out on them.
